Simone Yeomans, Ph.D., M.S., LMFT

Simone Yeomans holds a Master of Arts in German and Russian Literature and Language from the University of Erfurt (Germany); a Master of Arts in German Literature from the University of Missouri, Columbia; a PhD in German Studies from the University of California, Davis; as well as a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University.

Simone is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. As a therapist, she is committed to help her clients achieve a healthy life balance for their emotional and mental well-being. Principles and approaches from Depth Psychology, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Perspectives, Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are foundational in her practice, where she guides her clients into a deeper understanding of the their own life patterns.

One of her areas of specialty is Perinatal Anxiety and Mood Disorders, which includes Mood and Anxiety Disorders during pregnancy, after delivery, dealing with traumatic birth experiences, adoptions, as well as problems related to parent/newborn attachment. Anxiety and Mood disorders in general (Depression, Bipolar, General Anxiety Disorder, Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders) and their effects on relationships are also an integral part of her work.

Simone’s other area of specialization is Divorce and Divorce Recovery Counseling. Within this work, Simone guides her clients through the process of rebuilding their identity and sense of Self after the loss of a formerly committed relationship (including the loss of a job). Furthermore, Simone also assists children who are affected by divorce or parental separation, and helps parents understand the magnitude of the emotional impact a separation/divorce has on children. With play and art therapy, she helps children in dealing with the changes they are facing.

Much of Simone’s work, however, is related to Inner Child Work, which refers to the work with dreams and the exploration of metaphoric expressions of various emotional experiences throughout one’s life as they are related to current experiences. This work is most applicable to clients who are interested in understanding deeper layers of their own Selves.

In addition, Simone offers family or couple’s counseling from a Family System perspective for people who face challenges at any stage of their relationship or marriage such as lack or loss of intimacy and communication difficulties that can result in a loss of closeness, as well as anger and frustration. Simone also works with people who have experienced the loss of a loved one, and are facing grief and bereavement, or are struggling with transitions in their life in general.

Simone offers bilingual (English and German) individual, couples, and family counseling across the life span. Her practice includes office-based as well as local home-based counseling (for medical reasons only).

As a member of the Lafayette Coalition for Community Awareness of Perinatal Anxiety and Mood  Disorders (PAMD), she frequently facilitates a Support Group for those who suffer from Depression and/or Anxiety Disorders during pregnancy, postpartum or adoption.
